Wookie Walkers leads food drive quest

(11/27) Wookie Walkers comic book store has taken a front a center role in efforts to stock Emmitsburg Food Bank for the holiday season. Noble heroes of all types are encouraged throughout the winter to drop off non-perishable foods at Wookie Walkers located at 101 Silo Hill Road.

The food drive has been well underway since November and has seen a jubilee of enthusiastic community support for the less fortunate, according to store co-owner Casey Myers.

Along with newcomers eager to assist the holiday mission, Myers credits the store’s regulars for their continual support to contribute in any way. "We have a great group of like-minded individuals. And In a small town, we need buy-in from everybody." The drive’s first collection drop-off in mid-November lugged in 25 pounds of goods to the food bank, he said.

Wookie Walkers is also offering free standard back comic book issue following any donations of two or more goods. Although, according to Myers, no one has taken advantage of the offer yet. "People are just happy to donate," he said.

As a small business, community involvement, engagement, and giving back is extremely important, Myers said. Community involvement is an enormous aspect of the small business. "We’re very much community oriented. We rely on small town support and we’re getting it."

In its short 6 months of existence, Wookie Walkers has since established itself as a fun interactive community hang out spot for all ages. Wookie Walkers ahosts a variety of regular game nights for all ages including a kid’s game hour every Thursday starting at 5:30 for collaborative team building activities. Along with comic and collectibles Wookie Walkers also offers a variety of games and activities for the imagination, and memorabilia perfect for holiday gifts.
