(6/12) A suspect was accused of multiple offenses including police vehicle theft following a chase and crash June 12.
While Pennsylvania State Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect, Robert Slusser, of Bloomsburg, fled with a minor incident, according to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO).
The suspect then proceeded to steal a Pennsylvania State Trooper’s vehicle and cross into Emmitsburg, according to the FCSO.
At 1:50 p.m., FCSO deputies, Thurmont Police Department, and Maryland State Police responded to Route 15 in response to a stolen Pennsylvania State Police vehicle.
Road spike strips were allegedly utilized to disable the suspect’s initial vehicle.
Alleged witnesses claimed the suspect went into Rube's Crab Shack offering money to patrons for use of their vehicles and was denied.
The suspect then proceeded to steal a motorcycle and crashed with a vehicle pulling onto North Seton Avenue.
The stolen police vehicle was located on Depaul Street and shortly thereafter, a vehicle accident involving a motorcycle was reported on North Seton Avenue. Responding to the collision, deputies identified the motorcycle's operator Slusser as the suspect from the stolen police vehicle.
Slusser was transported to Meritus Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the FCSO.
At the time of the incident, Slusser had three open warrants through Pennsylvania for theft and was charged with multiple offenses including theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing police, aggravated assault, driving with a suspended license, burglary, and theft.
The Frederick County Sheriff's Office expressed gratitude to Maryland State Police and Thurmont Police Department for assisting in this incident. "This incident is an example of how Frederick County law enforcement agencies continuously work together to ensure the safety of Frederick County residents."
