(1/2021) Fire/EMS lost more than $120-130 thousand

The Fairfield Fire & EMS lost somewhere between $120,000 and $130,000 in 2020 purely from bingo games that could not be held because of the COVID-19 restrictions, according to Treasurer Gayle Marthers.

Marthers said while the company had to cancel the bingo and gun drawings, they where able to hold some limited fundraisers, however the lost revenue has been felt. "We’ve cut-back on expenditures as much as we can," she said. "It still takes money to keep the rigs rolling."

Marthers told the Carroll Valley Borough Council at their December meeting that the emergency services tax-dollars that Fairfield Fire & EMS receive annually "are greatly appreciated" but do not fill the full need that the department has to run (operate)" … adding that if anyone can donate to the Fairfield emergency responders, it would be greatly appreciated.

Regarding Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding, Marthers stated the Fairfield Fire & EMS has received several thousand dollars through CARES for personal protective equipment (PPEs), but that fire and ambulance companies are not reimbursed for revenues lost through cancellation of fundraisers as the direct result of coronavirus restrictions.

Gettysburg National Golf Club seeks to help volunteer organization

Gettysburg National Golf Club, formerly Mountain View Golf Club, is looking to hold benefit tournaments for any interested, local fire and ambulance companies, clubs, or organizations seeking to raise revenues for operations or designated causes.

The golf club changed ownership in October and is located at 4099 Bullfrog Road, near the intersection of Bullfrog Road and Carroll Tract Road, in Hamiltonban Township, just north of Fairfield Borough. The club operates year-round and touts a "well-manicured 18-hole gem," comprised of two distinctly different 9-hole sections.

Other amenities include a pro-shop, and grill-pavilion which offers a "picturesque views of the 9th, 10th and 18th holes." The club offers golf lessons, an on-line gift-card and membership sign-up, and even golf club repairs.

The golf club presently has a little over 400 members and is seeking to expand its membership. "Right now, we’re holding a membership drive," General Manager Ed Reely stated.

Events are presently subject to COVID-19 restrictions.
