Gettysburg New Year's Eve Celebration

New Year’s Eve fireworks are set to go off at midnight as historic Gettysburg rings in 2011 with music, magic, fire eating, and free family entertainment. Two classic rock bands will perform in Lincoln Square, Audacity at 9:30 p.m. and One More Time at 10:15 p.m.

Pyrotechnotics, a fire performance crew, will amaze audiences with numerous aspects of fire arts. Poi spinning, contact staff, fire eating, fire breathing, and contact fire are part of the act scheduled for 10 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. Jeff Asper, Adam Kline, and Jingl Liza of Pyrotechnotics have performed at numerous public and private venues on the East Coast, and have been covered in many local and national publications.

Christ Lutheran Church on Chambersburg Street will play host to the Herb Sell Jazz Trio at 7:30 p.m., Gettysburg attorney John Wolfe’s feats of magic at 8:45 p.m., a community sing-along at 9:45 p.m., and Cormorant’s Fancy performing Celtic and seasonal tunes at 10:30 p.m.  The church will provide hot mulled cider, refreshments, and a community worship service at 11:45 p.m.

From 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., drop in at the Adams County Arts Council’s Imagination Station, 18 Carlisle Street, Suite 201, where Ann Walsh and volunteers will lead young artists in making funny hats and jewelry. Children ages 4 through 12 will also enjoy face painting by Adventure in Fun. Members 1^st sponsors these children’s activities.

Wear a funny hat and vie for a prize at the party on Lincoln Square where DJ Mark Purdy will start the tunes at 9 p.m.  Enjoy a stilt-walking toy soldier in the square and balloon art provided by Adventure in Fun in the Gettysburg Hotel lobby. There’ll be hot food and drinks available from Hunt’s Battlefield Fries.

Marl Purdy will begin the countdown to midnight at 11:30 p.m. with special guests and vocalist Meg Folkemer who’ll usher in 2011 from the porch of the Gettysburg Hotel. 

The celebration culminates at midnight with a Lincoln Square fireworks display, sponsored by ACNB Bank. All events are free and open to the public, presented through a partnership of the Borough of Gettysburg, ACNB and the Adams County Arts Council. No buttons or tickets are required.
