Gettysburg Festival’s winter fundraising event

(2/8) Gettysburg Festival, Inc. is pleased to announce a new fundraising event, to be held at the Gettysburg Heritage Center on Steinwehr Avenue on Saturday, February 21 from 5-7:30 p.m. The event will feature two premier local artists, Mark Brockman and Larry Selman, who will each create a painting during the evening’s festivities. When completed, each painting will be given away to two lucky guests. Tickets are $40 each or $75 per couple—and includes wine, craft beer and hors d’oeuvres.

"We are so grateful to Larry and Mark for donating their time to help the 2015 Festival. We have a great line-up of talent and some wonderful surprises in store for everyone in June," said Gettysburg Festival, Inc. board chair Mary Stuart Smith. "The funds raised at this event will help to support the programming, so that we can keep everything affordable for all. "

Brockman‘s preferred medium is pastel but he uses oil, watercolor and acrylics as well. He works outdoors and in the studio. When painting Plein Air, his pastels tend to be truer to what the subject looks like but still he strives to give his impression, his feeling of the subject rather than work toward a photographic or literal representation. His studio paintings are done mostly from memory, and his imagination. In the studio he manipulates, scrapes, dissolves, and draws with the pastels. He will do anything to get the feel, emotion, and look he desires from that painting.

Selman is an historical artist who combines personal passion, unsurpassed talent and extraordinary authenticity in each painting. His works are highly prized among historical enthusiasts and private collectors worldwide. His military paintings capture the most important events in our nation's history. They range in subject matter from depicting scenes of the American Revolution to current theaters of operation around the world. His work is a tribute to the American soldier.

"Attendees will have a unique opportunity to experience art in the making, and will also have the privilege to preview one of Gettysburg’s newest and finest attractions, the Gettysburg Heritage Center," stated Tammy Myers, President of the Gettysburg Heritage Center.

Myers continued, "As a champion for a sustainable community, the Heritage Center is honored to help the Festival fulfill its mission, bringing attention to local talent, all while immersing guests into a fun and entertaining experience."

Planning for the 2015 Gettysburg Fest is well under way. The Fest—held June 12-14 on Lincoln Avenue at the Gettysburg College campus— is free and will offer a texture of many musical genres, with an emphasis on American Classic Rock. The music will overlay an ever-growing visual and culinary arts program.
