Positions are available on several town commissions and town commissioners
are looking for ways to make it easier to fill the void.
Four boards are short a total of six board members; three of those are
missing from the town's Park Commission.
There is also one vacancy in each of the following commissions: Planning and
Zoning, Board of Appeals and Police Commission.
Residents are encouraged to send a letter of interest to the board of
commissioners at the town office, 10 Frederick Road, if they are interested in
serving on a board.
At Tuesday's town meeting, the board will vote on a plan to allow
nonresidents to sit on the Parks Commission. The change was suggested by
Commissioner Wayne Hooper because there are frequently not enough members to
form a quorum.
Commissioners go caroling
Town commissioners announced Wednesday that they will go caroling at 5:30
p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17 at the town square.
They will be joined by family and friends, and ask other residents to also
join them as they visit the senior apartments on Moser Road and others in the
community.
The caroling will end at Kountry Kitchen, with hot chocolate, Commissioner
Ron Terpko said.
Library re-site OK with board
Thurmont's board of commissioners agreed Tuesday to support plans for a
change in location for the planned Thurmont Regional Library. The library will
still be located on town property, but it will cross over into another
town-owned lot.
The 25,000 square-foot library is planned off of Moser Road on property next
to the town's electric plant. The change in location is necessary because the
original location on the lot next to the electric company covered too much
protected wetlands area.
When the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Maryland Department of the
Environment studied the site of the library, wetlands problems were discovered.
The town's board heard the news last week and decided this week to support
the changes. Frederick County Public Works employees plan to meet with
engineers before the end of the month to seek approval on the plan.
