(8/2022) Town Speed Issues Continue

In an effort to address repeated speeding issues noted in town, Woodsboro residents are continually encouraged to speak out regarding vehicles burning rubber.

The council was still awaiting information details regarding potential speed humps near the school district.

As the council does not foresee Woodsboro acquiring its own police force anytime soon, the only way to quell speeders is to voice out in order to get law enforcement presence, according to Commissioner Bud Eckenrode.

Frederick County Sheriff Charles Jenkins has been more than generous in providing officers when requested for speeding hot spots, "But if we don’t complain it will never get done, Eckenrode said.

Potential Skatepark Presentation Expected

At the public comment portion of the Woodsboro Council meeting, resident Ben Marshall expressed interest in the development of a public town skatepark.

Taking influence and inspiration from Thurmont’s skatepark recently established in November 2021, Marshall has been in contact with Staci Zelenka, mother of Thurmont Skatepark Committee member Maceo, the group instrumental in bringing the public its "Skate way to the Mountains."

Marshall expects to bring more information to the council this month, including cost estimates and potential locations. "I am very open to the idea," Barnes said.
