Weather Watch: Tropical Storms (1) with hot and humid weather (2,3,4). Stormy (5,6) turning hot, hazy, and humid (7,8,9,10). Showers and Storms (11,12) turning fair and not so hot (13,14). Showers and very warm (15,16,17) with Tropical Storms returning (18,19,20,21). Hazy, hot, and humid (22,23) with more hot, humid, showers and Storms (24,25,26,27,28. Fair and rather warm (29,30,31).

Tornado Watch: The Almanack forecasts a very active month for tornadoes with tornado activity predicted for the 1st, the 11th and 12th and between the 18th and the 21st.

Full Moon: The Full Moon for August has been often referred to as the Full Ripe Moon or Fruit Moon because of the many summer fruits and vegetables that are ripe at this time. It is also known as the Dog Moon for The Dog Days, that end on the 11th as well as Sturgeon Moon. August's Full Moon rises on August 29th at 9:22PM.

Special Notes: On August 6, 1787, the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia began debating the articles contained in a draft of the U.S. Constitution. In 1882, the famous feud between the Hatfields of West Virginia and the McCoys of Kentucky started. Before it ended, over 100 men, women and children had been killed or wounded.

Holidays: Enjoy the last few weeks of the summer and always include safety, common sense, and a good sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher) in your plans! Get ready for Labor Day, which is just around the corner. School starts for many soon and now is the time to plan for the first day. Get annual physicals and eye exams scheduled. Make a list of school supplies that will be need in those first days. Buy them early to avoid out of stock conditions of the more popular items. Seniors should have at least one college application completed before school starts.

The Garden: To encourage more flowers, azaleas should be trimmed after they bloom in the spring and before the end of August. Schedule grass mowing in the morning or mid-day hours to avoid late afternoon thundershowers. If you choose to water your lawn, do so only when wilted or discolored. Stop feeding trees and shrubs after mid-August. You don't want to promote new growth that will not have time to fully mature before winter sets in.
