March 2005
"The stormy march has come at last,
with winds and clouds and changing skies;
I hear the rushing of the blast
that through the snowy valley flies."
William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878)
For the month of march, temperatures will be average with precipitation to be below average.
Weather watch: fair and cool (1); rain or snow, stormy (2,3) with fair and colder temperatures (4,5,6). Snow or rain (7,8,9) with
flurries or sprinkles (10,11). Fair and cool weather returns (12,13) with some light snow or rain (14, 15). Fair and cool (16,17) with rain or snow (18,19,20). Fair
and cool (21,22,23,24,25) with more light snow or rain (26,27. Fair and cool (28,29) with the month ending with still more light rain or snow (30,31)
Tornado watch: the almanac predicts no tornado activity in the month of march.
Full moon: march's full moon will occur on the 25th and has been often called the worm moon. This is because march's warmer
temperatures would soften the earth enough to allow worms to begin burrowing out of the ground. It has also been referred to as the sap moon because in the region,
sap would run at this time of year.
Special notes: there is still time to make 2004 contributions to your ira. Be sure to designate them as contributions for 2003 on
checks and deposit slips. If you paid points to buy a house, refinance or to obtain a home improvement or home equity loan (if used for the express purpose of
remodeling or improving the property), remember that they are fully deductible in the year in which they were paid.
Holidays: be sure to honor st. Patrick on Thursday, march 17th by wearing something green to school or work! Palm Sunday follows on
march 20th, good Friday the 25th and Easter Sunday and Monday are to be celebrated on march 27th and 28th respectively.
The garden: spring is in the air! Start getting your lawn in shape by raking briskly, removing any build up of thatch. When weather
begins to warm, reseed your fescue lawn or just plant seed in the bare spots. Apply a pre-emergent herbicide to established lawns to help control summer weeds. Sow
cool-season vegetables in mid-march. Fertilize fescue lawns.
J. grubers' thought for today's living:
The time to make friends is before you need them.
