 September 2005

"You can if you think you can. Engrave these seven words deeply in your consciousness. They are packed with power and with truth.
Reverend Dr. Norman Vincent Peale (1899-1993)

Full moon: September's full moon is most famously known as the harvest moon. It is the full moon that falls closest to the autumnal equinox at a time when the moon rises soon after sunset on several successive days. According to tradition, the extra light from the moon during that period gave the farmer more time to finish up his chores and bring in the harvest. September's full moon occurs on the 17th a 9:01pm and is the harvest moon of 2005. The autumnal equinox will occur on Thursday, September 22nd

Special notes: we must never forget those who lost their lives tragically on 9/11/2001. Remember that every day our lives depend upon the skill, courage, and commitment of the many who volunteer as fire fighters and EMT personnel across our great land.

Holidays: labor day in on the first Monday (5th) and citizenship day on Saturday, the 17th.

The garden: fall is for planting! Plant spring-flowering bulbs such as daffodils, hyacinths, and tulips after the first hard frost. Plant pansies quickly so they can develop reliable roots before soil gets too cold. Fall-planted pansies will survive winter. Cool-season vegetable seeds and seedlings can be planted, too. Try cabbage, lettuce, beets, turnips, spinach, radishes, collards and broccoli; be sure to water thoroughly after planting.

J. Grubers' thought for today's living:

"A man who won't admit he's been wrong loves himself more then he loves the truth"
