Frederick County Agriculture
Week
The Frederick County Agriculture Week will be
held on February 11-16, at the Francis Scott Key Mall in Frederick, Maryland.
Many displays and events are being planned for this year and changes have been
made to the schedule and times of events.
If you have any questions concerning Frederick
County Ag Week or your business or organization would like to place a display

and machinery may be set up on Sunday, February 10, from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Please
note the time change to enter exhibits. If the snow emergency plan is in effect
for Frederick County, events at the mall will be cancelled or rescheduled.
Activities currently planned are:
The pictures will be displayed throughout the
week. Ribbons will be awarded to the winners of each category. Categories are:
novice (3 years and under); Juniors (4 - 7 years); and Youth (8 – 12 years) and
Adult (13 - 100+).
Monday, February 11 – Ice Cream Making Contest
– Registration will begin from 6 - 6:30 p.m. at center court (note location
change this year) and churning will begin at 6:30 p.m. Groups will need to
supply their own hand crank freezer (which is in good condition and the mix is
placed in a food grade, cleanable container inside the "bucket"), floor
covering, supplies, (no eggs to be used in recipe), salt, ice, etc., along with
a copy of the ice cream recipe for the judging. Supplies should be purchased
immediately prior to the event and transported to the event site in a cooler.
Ice cream must be churned on the premises and not pre-made. Committee members
will inspect the ice cream containers before churning begins. Space also will
be limited, (so individuals may have to take turns churning for their group).
Those teams participating will also need to
supply ice cream for those in attendance and will be required to clean up their
area after churning. If teams do not supply ice cream for public consumption,
the team will be disqualified. The Frederick County Dairy Princess and Dairy
Maids, and the Frederick County 4-H Royalty will be assisting with the ice
cream churning and distribution. Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st through
5th place. For further information or questions, please visit the Frederick

emergency plan is in effect, the ice cream churning will be held on Wednesday,
February 13th.
Tuesday, February 12 - The annual Marcie
Becker Cake and Pie Contest and Auction will be held near center court.
Everyone is welcome to enter your cake or pie (with the recipe) to the center
court between 6-6:30 p.m. No baked goods that may promote rapid growth of
bacteria may be entered, including cream pies, cream or meat filled pastries,
custards and custard pies, pumpkin, meringue, mousse, ganache, curd, cream
cheese icing, cheesecake or traditional butter cream icing will be allowed.
Also, cakes and/or pies may not be decorated or garnished with fresh fruit or
vegetables. An auction of all baked items will start at 7:30 p.m. Denny
Remsburg will serve as the auctioneer that evening. Please plan to attend and
purchase a delicious cake or pie to support Ag Week at the Mall.

cake/pie contest will be held on Wednesday, February 13th.
Also, the Farm Family of the Year
(Hildebrand); the Ag Advocate of the Year (Robert & Cookie Ramsburg), the Agri-Business
of the Year (D.W. Ogg) and the Young Farmer of the Year (Tyler Nowell) will be
recognized prior to the cake sale.
Wednesday, February 13 – The Frederick County
4-H Robotics Club (Robo Rangers) will be conducting various demonstrations and
building events at center court from 4:30-9 p.m.
Thursday, February 14 – Come and enjoy and
visit the exhibits and displays at the Mall.
Friday, February 15 – The Roy Porter Memorial
Log Sawing Contest will be held at 7 p.m. in the vacant store next to American
Eagle (the old Pac Sun Store). Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Contestants
will be judged on the best time and will be limited to a FFA boys team and FFA
girls team from each FFA Chapter in Frederick County. FFA Alumni, 4-H Clubs,
and the 4-H Royalty are also encouraged to have a boy and girls team to compete
as well. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the teams with the best time.
The Frederick County Dairy Princess Committee
will be constructing a Giant Ice Cream Sundae that evening at Center Court at
7:30 p.m.. Members of the Frederick County Dairy Princess Committee, princesses
and Royalty will be assisting with the construction of the sundae.
Saturday, February 16 - the Frederick County
Sheep Breeders Association will be having demonstrations from 1 - 5 p.m. and
the Frederick County 4-H Entomology Club will be having a display of insects
between 12 - 3 p.m. at center court.
The Frederick County 4-H Tailwaggers Dog Club
will be having demonstrations and activities from 3 - 5 p.m. near DSW Shoes.
A demonstration by Scales and Tales will be
presented at 6 p.m. near the center court and the annual Kiddie Pedal Tractor
Pull will be held at 7 p.m. in front of the DSW store, with registration
beginning at 6:30 p.m. Any child, from ages 5-10 are eligible to participate in
the pedal pull. Prizes will be awarded to all participants.
Many agriculture organizations and businesses
will be having displays during Ag Week at the Mall. All displays and exhibits
must be entered between 7 and 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, , unless prior
approval of the Ag Week Committee is received; and all exhibits MUST remain
until 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, . Machinery exhibits can be removed
Saturday, February 16, at 9 p.m. Exhibits must be picked up by 10 p.m. on
Saturday, February 16th or they will be considered abandoned and removed from
the property; no steel wheels; all machinery exhibits must have plastic on the
floor under the oil pan, and cardboard or carpet under the tires and jack. If
there is inclement weather on Saturday night, exhibits may be picked up on
Sunday, February 17th from 9-10 a.m. Also, booths and exhibits should be kept
neat and clean all week. The Chairman of each activity must make sure
activities are cleaned up; no vehicles will be allowed in the mall unless
approved by the Ag Week Committee and raffles must be approved by the Ag Week
Committee and proper permits obtained.
