(3/5) The Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra (FRYO), a non-profit organization, is pleased to present the winners of their 2007 Concerto Competition at a free recital, Monday, March 12, 2007, at 7:00 pm at the Frederick Church of the Brethren.

FRYO is composed of dedicated young musicians from Frederick and the surrounding regions. Our musicians range from elementary-aged through high school students who have an avid interest in orchestral music. Each season the students in the Senior Orchestra have the opportunity to compete before a panel of judges for the privilege of performing as a soloist with FRYO at the May concerto concert. Twenty-three FRYO members provided the judges with outstanding performances on a wide variety of instruments. This season there was an unprecedented five-way tie for 3rd place. To give each of these talented students an opportunity to perform for the public, FRYO is hosting a special recital for all of the 2007 competition winners.

Grant Piccerillo, a senior at Linganore High (tuba), and Elisabeth Henderson (flute), a junior at New Life Christian School, are our 1st and 2nd place winners respectively. Grant will be performing a movement from Vaughan Williams' Tuba Concerto, and Elisabeth will play Doppler's Fantaisie Pastorale Hongroise for flute. Grant and Elisabeth will also be performing as soloists with the full Senior Orchestra at the May 21, 2007 concerto concert to be held at Frederick Community College's Kussmaul Theater. Tyler Frazee (violin), a 9th grader at Middletown High; Kirk Llewellyn (violin), an 8th grade home-schooler; Daniel Razvi (violin), a home-schooler; Nicholas Schneider, a 10th grader at Catoctin High, and Gabriel Schneider, a 7th grader at Thurmont (violin duet); and Alex Siegling (oboe), a 10th grader at Linganore High, are the 3rd place winners who will be performing at the recital.
