Chorus is preparing for its annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3
p.m. in the Basilica at the Provincial House in Emmitsburg.
The concert will offer music from Mozart’s Alleluia and
Handel’s Hallelujah, Amen (from Judas Maccabaeus, Part 3) as arranged by
Russell Robinson to Joel and Russell Nagy's calypso-style Tell Everybody You
Know and Standard Award winner from ASCAP Mark Hayes’ arrangement of Have
Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. The men in the chorus will present the
medley Celebrate the Child arranged by Tom Fettke and followed by the women of
the chorus presentation of a Garland of Carols arranged by Linda Spevacek.
During the intermission, director Peggy Burrier will perform
selected songs of Christmas to share with the guests while a free will offering
will be collected to support the work of the chorus.
Other music the chorus will present during the holiday season for residents at
area nursing homes and assisted-living.
The Emmitsburg Community Chorus has been performing in
Emmitsburg for more than 45 years. In 1975, under the direction of Sister Jane
Marie Perrot, the chorus had the privilege of singing at the canonization of
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Rome, Italy. Chorus members come from all over the
state of Maryland and neighboring states, including Virginia and Pennsylvania.
The Emmitsburg Community Chorus concerts are made possible by a
grant from the Frederick Arts Council and are supported by a grant from the
Maryland State Arts Council, an agency funded by the state of Maryland and the
National Endowment for the Arts. The Emmitsburg Community Chorus is
incorporated as a non-profit and tax-exempt corporation. All gifts and
donations to the chorus are tax deductible.
