A
fire at an Emmitsburg residence
reduced two sheds to rubble and
killed about 10 rabbits Wednesday
afternoon.
The
fire at 15905 Old Frederick Road was
fully involved when fire companies
arrived in response to a 12:55 p.m.
call.
Fueled
by afternoon winds, the fire covered
about a half-acre of property,
consuming two sheds and extending to
a nearby field. About 65
firefighters responded from Vigilant
Hose Co., Emmitsburg Ambulance Co.,
Guardian Hose Co., Rocky Ridge
Volunteer Fire Co. and Graceham
Volunteer Fire Co.
As
a precaution, three tankers were
called in from New Midway Volunteer
Fire Co., Taneytown Volunteer Fire
Co. and Greenmount Fire Department
in Adams County, Pa.
No
one was home at the time of the
fire, and there were no injuries.
Firefighters
were forced to knock a chimney out
of the severely damaged barn, which
was left standing.
Although
charred boards and debris were all
that were left of the two sheds,
firefighters managed to rescue three
rabbits.
The
fire is under investigation by the
State Fire Marshal’s Office and a
cause had not been determined by
press time.
The
property was owned by James Bentz,
said Wayne Powell of Vigilant Hose
Co.
