Mount St. Mary’s
College Associate Professor of Philosophy,
David Rehm has recently been recognized as
an Outstanding First Year Advocate by the
National Resource Center for the
First-Year Experience and Students in
Transition and by the Houghton Mifflin
Company. David is one of ten faculty
members chosen out of 120 who were
nominated in the national competition.
The award, now in
its fourteenth year, honors college
faculty, administrators, and staff for
their outstanding work on behalf of
first-year students and for the impact
their efforts have on the students and
culture of their institutions.
This year’s
recipients will be formally recognized on
February 23, 2003 at the Annual Conference
on the First-Year Experience in Atlanta,
Georgia.
David Rehm is a
graduate of Oberlin College and earned his
master’s and doctorate from the
University of Chicago. Rehm has been a
Mount faculty member since 1995 and has
served as the director of the Freshman
Seminar Program—which has received
regional and national recognition—since
1997. The Freshman Seminar Program is a
two semester course designed to develop
students’ writing, reading and critical
thinking skills and prepare them to
succeed in college and life.
"I’m just
delighted that David has been honored in
this way," said Carol Hinds,
vice-president and provost of Mount St.
Mary’s. "His six years as director
of our freshman program have been good for
the students and the faculty who teach
freshman," she added.
