Oompah ZOOmpah!
Fundraiser for Catoctin Wildlife Preserve & Zoo
(9/3) Thurmont, MD - This year the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve & Zoo will be hosting its first ever German Arts Festival, Oktoberfest-themed, cleverly titled, "Oompah Zoompah!" Music for the festival will be provided by Heidi und Heimat Echo, from Woodbridge, VA, the
premier German cultural musical experience, which includes authentic costumed musicians playing sounds of Germany from yesterday and today with traditional instrumentation; accordion, bass, drums, brass, alphorn, and cowbells.
A traditional Beer Garden will be provided by Flying Dog Brewery, from Frederick, MD, and a Bavarian-themed concession menu will be provided by Canapés Catering, also from Frederick, MD. Held on the beautifully landscaped and wooded Preserve grounds among
100’s of exotic animals from 6 continents on Saturday, September 25th from 12pm to 4pm, this fun filled event will be the Preserve and Zoo’s main fundraiser this year.
The event will feature booths with local artisans and crafters as well as educational conservation and art programs for children. There will be a silent auction with a fascinating and diverse selection of items, on the day of the event, with pre-bidding available. This is a great opportunity for
your business to show your support of wildlife preservation and education. Sponsorship opportunities are available on many levels.
The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve & Zoo has been a growing part of Frederick County since 1933. It is now under the management of Global Wildlife Trust, Inc., a 501(c) nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of wild animals worldwide and the conservation of all our local natural
resources.
Plant Conservation Day - September 11th from 9am until 3pm
Celebrate Plant Conservation Day with Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo. Plant Conservation day is a fantastic excuse to celebrate the importance of plants and the role we all play in their conservation. Although ‘official’ Plant Conservation Day is typically in the Spring, CWPZoo will be
celebrating its own version with lots of planned activities including: a "Gardening for Butterflies" talk, a Butterfly tagging and release, a drawing for one of six Beautyberry bushes donated by M&W Nursery, free flower face painting for children, a planting event sponsored by Volunteer Frederick,
and a medicinal plant walk. Native and rare plant vendors including, Grounds for Nature, M&W Nursery and Signature Horticultural Services, will be available with plants for purchase. Local organizations with information booths will also be available, including the Catoctin Chapter of the Sierra
Club, Maryland Native Plant Society and the Maryland Master Gardeners. North Creek Nursery, located in Landenburg, PA, has generously donated a FREE native perennial to the first 60 guests (one per household).
Plant Conservation Day was started in 2001 by the Association of Zoological Horticulture (AZH), and has been actively celebrated by zoos throughout the United States since then. In 2006, Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) partnered with AZH to help expand Plant Conservation Day celebrations to botanic gardens and develop resources to make celebrating easy and fun for any
organization, group, or individual interested in conserving the world's plants.
