 Pauline "Polly" Victoria Baumgardner Shank

Mrs. Pauline "Polly" Victoria Baumgardner Shank, 90, of Waynesboro Pike, Fairfield, Pa., passed from this life on Sunday, May 15 at the Gettysburg Hospital, Gettysburg, Pa.

Born Dec. 5, 1914 in Frederick County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas B. and Mary Morrison Baumgardner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon B. Shank Sr. on Feb. 6, 2002.

She was a member of Elias Evangelical Lutheran Church, Emmitsburg, a member of the Women of L.C.A., was a Sunday school teacher for many years and sang on the church choir. She was co-owner and co-operator of Shanks Mill, Fairfield, Pa. She was a waitress at the Green Parrot Tea Room, Emmitsburg, and a graduate of Emmitsburg High School, class of 1930. She was a Frederick County Basketball referee for many years and a member of the Emmitsburg Historical Society.

Surviving are nine children, Weldon B. Shank Jr. of Everette, Pa., Nina Dolly of Gettysburg, Pa., Wendell Shank, Wilmer Shank and William Shank all of Fairfield, Pa., Wallace Shank of Black hawk, Colo., N. Victoria Smith of Frederick, Nora Whitney and Nita Shank both of Fairfield, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Rodney and Ronald Shank; three brothers, Clarence, Tad and Carl Baumgardner; five sisters, Helen McNair, Anna Gall, Dorothy Knox, Emma Shorb and Jane Baumgardner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 20 at Elias Evangelical Lutheran Church, Emmitsburg, with her pastor, the Rev, Jon Greenstone, officiating. Interment will be in Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at the Skiles Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, and on Friday from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
