John B. Ott, Jr., age 80, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.
Born August 14, 1931 in Emmitsburg, Md., he was the son of the late John and Ida (Miller) Ott, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris (Ridenour) Ott.
John was a plumber at St. Joseph’s College in Emmitsburg for many years and retired as a bartender for the V.F.W. in Emmitsburg. He was a life member of the Emmitsburg V.F.W. Post #6658, Francis X. Elder Post 121 American Legion and the Blue Ridge Sportsman’s Club. He was also a member of the Thurmont AMVETS, Post #7, Saint Anthony Shrine Parish,
and 3rd degree Knights of Columbus. John enjoyed playing cards, put- ting puzzles together, coin collecting, cooking soups and his famous chili, and spending time with family and grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Phyllis Cool and husband Richard of Emmitsburg, Michael Ott and companion Linda Biggins of McKnightstown, PA, Joseph Ott and wife Cathy of Emmitsburg, and Dennis Ott of
Emmitsburg; grandchildren, Richard and Shannon Cool, John, Shawn, Chris, David, D. J., Becky, Sarah, and William Ott; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Morgan, Alexis, Faith and Blake Cool, Shawn Jr., Isis, and Madison Ott; sisters, Betty Weatherly and husband John of Fairfield, PA, and Doris Ott of Hanover, PA and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 9, 2012 at St. Anthony Shrine Catholic Church, 16150 St. Anthony Rd., Emmitsburg with Rev. Lawrence Donohue as celebrant. Interment will follow in the New St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Emmitsburg.
