Robert Calvin Orner, age 87, of Emmitsburg, MD died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA. Born July 12, 1924 in Harney, MD, he was the son of the late Dewey and Margaret Auchinbaugh Orner. He was the husband of Blanche R. Harbaugh Orner, his wife of 62 years.
He was a member of Elias Lutheran Church in Emmitsburg, the Masonic Lodge and VFW Post 6918 in Harney. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during WWII. He enjoyed gardening, watching wild- life, and, most of all, working. He worked for Jubilee Food Store in Emmitsburg for over 25 years, and was still a
full-time employee at the time of his death. He previously worked at Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown prior to its closing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son & daughter-in-law, Douglas D. & Patricia A. Orner, of Emmitsburg, MD. He was predeceased by son, R. Craig Orner in 1997.
Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Elias Lutheran Church, 100 W. North St., Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev. Jon R. Greenstone officiating. Interment will follow at Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 6-8 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
