Leslie Gabler has been
Music Director at Messiah United Methodist
Church since 1996. Since that date she has
offered private lessons to students in piano
and voice in the sanctuary of Messiah
Church. Interested students may contact her
at 410 876 9181.
Previously she was
assistant organist at Roland Avenue
Evergreen United Methodist Church,
Baltimore, Maryland (1967-1994) and then
organist and choir director there
(1994-1995). She was married to the Rev.
David Slater, a United Methodist pastor.
After his death she married Carlton Gabler.
Leslie directs the
Children's Choir and Adult Choir at Messiah
Church. She conducts a Christmas and
Lenten-Easter Cantata with our choir and
additional members from area Taneytown
churches. Twice each year the Messiah
Chancel Choir performs at Carroll Lutheran
Village Retirement Home in Westminster. She
works with the United Methodist Youth to
sing at special services. Each Sunday she
teaches Christian music to the Sunday School
children to prepare them for the two
children's cantatas each year. These
children dress in costumes, act, and sing in
chorus and perform solos to a good-size
audience.
Recently Leslie
trained choir members for the community
"Legacy of Faith" Cantata for the 250th
Anniversary of the Founding of Taneytown.
Other area churches joined under the
direction of Anna Motter to perform in
concert.
Those interested in
joining the Adult (Chancel) Choir or the
Children's Choir are cordially invited to
contact Leslie Gabler at 410 876 9181. The
style of music sung by the choir includes
traditional, gospel, contemporary, and
international expressions.
Each year on World
Wide Communion Sunday, the first Sunday of
October, Leslie leads the choir with anthems
from around the world. The congregation
comes dressed in costumes from around the
world. There is a big parade in church as
the congregation celebrates the church
throughout all nations and kindreds of
peoples. Usually there is an international
dinner or international desert fellowship
time afterwards.
